They had a special name for girls like Carter, and typically it went along the lines of 'maneater'. What could she say? Most boys, she knew how to twist them this way and that, to get them to do what she wanted. But this... this was different, in the situation, in the person, in everything. Damien Mercer was completely outside the norm for her, everything about him pulled her in when all of her senses were telling her to get the fuck out. That was part of the reason why Carter was always on major bitch mode whenever she talked to him: she couldn't let herself get close enough to him, because she knew it would be horribly obvious that she was falling for him... which was a mistake in itself. Carter may not exactly put it off, but she was more cautious than she let on, especially when relationships where involved. She was used to having her heart broken, by being drawn to the type of guy that wasn't in a relationship for very long, and with Damien, most signs pointed to him being that type of guy. But could she really formulate an opinion, considering the fact the only type of conversation they had was a quick and sarcastic banter? It was funny, that night when she'd logged on and started talking to him, how difficult it was to maintain a normal conversation, especially considering the information she'd foolishly divulged a few nights before. Sure, she'd been drunk, but still, how stupid could she be? She'd told him that she liked him, she told him the things she was afraid of, and why she was afraid of them. It was more than she told even her closest friends.
• • • Not only that, but there was other things he'd shared with her, too. Like how he had a heart condition. how he had to take pills for it. the stupid question she'd asked, that her intoxicated mind thought was a good question... do you need to take them? well, of course he did! he had problems with his hear, that was more than enough reason to take them! She'd woken up the morning after with a hangover and a strong sense of anxiety. Oh, no. what was she thinking? She'd spoken to him a few times after that night, and he hadn't mentioned it... Maybe he'd forgotten. Surely, there were other girls he could have interest in... girl that were able to capture and hold his attention, but that made questions arise in her mind. If he didn't like her, then why, when she had told him her feelings, why hand't he just shut her down? It was Damien's way to be blunt, especially with her, but looking back on how they had talked... it had almost seemed like he had been encouraging her to pursue him i na very, very subtle way. It confused the hell out of her, for sure, but what if her gut was telling her was true, and maybe he had been very subtly trying to drop a hint... well, she was going to go for it.
• • • But, she didn't want to make herself obvious. Taht was why she'd made the terms for their date along the lines of a competition. Also, she was more comfortable with that situation than she would have been with any other. however, that didn't mean that Carter didn't want to look good, even if she was more confident.... ish. She spent a fair amount of time on her make up, on pulling her wavy brown locks back in to a ponytail that was elegant, yet sophisticated. Her clothes were easier to pick... what she knew she looked damn good in. however, even though she looked good, she was still nervous as hell. It was the strangest feeling. For once, Carter was the one on edge. She was so used to being able to put the boys she was out with on the spot, not the other way around... and Carter knew full well that Damien was more than capable of putting her on the spot without even trying. Carter heard his car pull up, and after checking herself in the mirror, went out to meet him. He looked... stunningly handsome, as always. Carter really couldn't picture him as anything but. He complimented her on her appearance, and it took everything she had not to simply beam at him with pleasure. No, she wasn't going to go and do that and give absolutely everything away. Instead, she just said that he was looking handsome, himself. Point one for Carter.
• • • Honestly, Carter was expecting a lot out of this date, and she knew he wouldn't fail to deliver, considering what was at stake. He didn't have much to worry about, though. even if the date completely blew, she would still have said she'd enjoyed herself. OH, if only she knew he wanted this kiss as much as she did. When he took her out to the Ivy, the conversation was a little awkward, but they were able to comfortably get past that by the time the food was served. What could Carter say? When the she needed to, she could supply some good ice breakers to get the conversation rolling... but she was a little flustered at first. Who wouldn't be, if they had the chance to go out with the person they had inadverdently fallen completely head over heels for, but ultimately tried to deny they had feelings for said person? Confusing, wasn't it? Yeah, now imagine that confusion ten times worse and that was what it was for Carter. But, it wasn't all fake conversation. Truth be told, Damien was very interesting to her, intelligent, and always had something to say. It just drew Carter into him even more. After he paid for their meal, they decided to go for a walk. It was nice outside, the sun had just set... and really, it was a bit romantic. They walked for a while, talking, towards the Royal Botanic Gardens.
• • • Carter rolled her eyes at him as he started walking backwards in front of her, "Show off." He knew that she was a major klutz, he shouldn't rub it in, "Well, if you mean tedious in the way that I have to watch where I step before I fall and break my neck, then yes, it's quite tedious." She watched him, a smile on her face. Finally, Carter shrugged, and told him she didn't mind walking. It was just that sometimes it was a bit difficult for her since she was so klutzy she was practically disabled sometimes. Then, with perfect timing with her thoughts, she stumbled forward, grabbing onto him so she could steady herself with a alugh. Still hanging onto him, she lifted her foot and took the heel off, still holding onto him so she didn't fall over like she knew she would if he let go, and then took off the other heel. "There. Now I'm less of a hazard to you and to myself..." She laughed, then looked at him, that smile still on her face. Carter nodded, saying quietly, "Yeah. Yeah I am enjoying myself." They continued on for a moment, Carter working something over in her mind. She'd been wanting to ask him all night if he remembered what she said to him while she was drunk. It confused her. If he did remember, why hadn't he said anything? Was he not saying anything because he thought she didn't remember and he wanted to save her the embarrassment? "Damien, She started tentatively, waiting until his eyes met hers, "A few nights ago.. I said some stuff to you while I was drunk... do you remember it?" Her tone was nervous, and she prayed to God she wasn't going to make a fool of herself.
